SOLIDARITY TOURISM
Travel conscientiously. Learn, share and transform
What is the project?
Solidarity Tourism is a way to travel with awareness and responsibility. It is not just a question of visiting a country, but of getting to know it from within, establishing respectful relationships with local communities and contributing positively to their development.
The Solidarity Tourism in Nepal project, promoted by Options Catalunya-Nepal, offers travel experiences that combine cultural exchange, mutual learning and direct support for educational and community projects, with a special focus on education and women’s empowerment.
It's not just traveling. It’s creating bonds, learning each other and leaving a positive footprint – also in yourself.

Conventional tourism often generates unequal impacts: concentration of benefits, economic dependence or disconnection between visitors and local communities. At the same time, many communities in Nepal face structural challenges related to access to education, economic opportunities and recognition of the role of women.
Solidarity Tourism was born as an alternative response to this model, betting on:
-
horizontal and respectful relationships with communities,
-
direct and transparent benefits for local projects,
-
and a travel experience that promotes critical knowledge, empathy and global responsibility.
Why is it necessary?

What do we want to achieve?
The general objective of the project is:
-
Promote a responsible tourism model that generates a positive impact on the local communities of Nepal and, at the same time, promotes a critical and solidarity awareness in the participants.
Specifically, the project seeks to:
-
to provide direct support to educational and women empowerment projects,
-
strengthen the capacities and initiatives of local communities,
-
fostering cultural exchange based on respect and mutual learning,
-
and raise awareness among participants about global inequalities and interdependence between territories.

Who is it addressed to?
-
Adults interested in travelling responsibly
-
Educational communities, entities and social groups
-
People committed to cooperation, global justice and interculturality
-
No previous experience in cooperation is required, only willingness to learn and share.
Impact and added value
The project generates impact on two levels:

Impact and results
Monitoring, evaluation and annual report
AIn Options Catalunya-Nepal we understand solidarity tourism as a tool for sustainable development, which must generate positive impacts on both local communities and participants. For this reason, the project incorporates a monitoring and evaluation system aimed at measuring economic, social, environmental and educational results.
The tracking system allows:
-
analyze the local economic impact of the project (contracting local services, social return to Options projects),
-
evaluate the social and community impact of the activities carried out.
-
identify and reduce the environmental footprint of travel (responsible consumption, waste management, mobility),
-
measure participants’ learning in terms of global citizenship, interculturality and social responsibility.
In this space we publish the annual report of the project, where they are collected:
-
the trips and solidarity tourism activities carried out,
-
the number of participants and communities involved,
-
the economic, social and environmental results achieved,
-
the learning and challenges identified,
-
and the transparent use of resources and the social return generated.
